The Evolution of Gambling

Gambling is a popular recreational activity in our present society. Also known as the game of luck gambling attracts players of all ages. Charles Fey was a car mechanic in San Francisco who in 1895 invented the very first slot machine. It was named Liberty Bell and was made out of three rotating wheels featuring three different designs “ spades, hearts and diamond. However, in 1907, Henry Stephen Mills, produced similar machines with certain differences. They were named Operator Bell. Since that time several modifications have been made on the slot machines and the ones that we see today are more sophisticated.

In case of the different card games such as blackjack, their evolution is little more difficult to trace and tell who exactly invented the game or promoted it. Many of the card games can trace their history back to early European society. Over time several modifications have been made but in many of the cases the basic rules have remained the same.

One of the first blackjack strategies which attracted a lot of attention of both the players and statisticians was propagated among the public in the year 1958 by McDermott, Maisel, Cantey and Baldwin. Winning Blackjack was another important book which taught the people the basic strategy with the use of hand calculators. This book was considered as one of the most important books in the early times and was also responsible for the development of the card counting technique.

Due to the contributions of these men the gambling industry has been able to evolve to what it is now. In the present day, the computers and internet has further revolutionized the gambling industry.
